    Dear all,
The IGAD co-chairs have revised the document according to the comments received on Monday. I have just left a comment for you (I assigned it to Hilary), since it could a little bit misleading. If so, just let me know and I will take action immediately, since I am the only IGAD chair in the European time zone.
    Thank you,
    Imma

Subject: [rda-cop] CoP Framework Document – Next / Final Steps
    Dear all
The Framework Document is now ready for your final viewing before our meeting on 14th September. Could you please read through the document, check the revisions and resolve any comments (or leave to discuss, as appropriate)?
Our revised suggested timeline for the final steps of the document is as follows:
    * 14 Sept meeting with TF to resolve document
    * 14 Sept send document to Council, TAB & OA
    * 15 – 27 Sept Council, TAB & OA review and feedback period
    * 28-30 Sept Secretariat (and TF if necessary) incorporate feedback
    * 1-15 Oct RDA community consultation
    * 16-30 Oct TF Assessment feedback
    * From November (if positive) set up CoP formally
The agenda for next week’s meeting:
    1. Resolution of open comments and discussion points
    2. Agreement on timing of next steps and stakeholders involved
    3. Format for community consultation (so we have ample time to prepare while Council review is taking place)
    4. AOB
    Many thanks,
    Best wishes

The Research Data Alliance (RDA) Interest Group on Agricultural Data (IGAD) meeting focusing on IGAD/RDA : Sharing Experiences and Creating Digital Dialogues, which was set to be held in Rome (Italy) in April 2020 will now take place as a virtual meeting.
Due to the current world status including the harsh impacts of COVID-19, holding the meeting virtually will help to ensure the health and safety of the worldwide IGAD community. It is crucial in times like these to accommodate the IGAD community properly and utilize online platforms to create digital dialogues and continue the important innovation of one of the RDA’s most prominent Thematic Groups.
The virtual meeting will provide an online platform to continue to build upon collaborations, knowledge sharing and developing innovations with activities including panel sessions, group discussions and presentations distributed throughout one week at the end of May. The exact dates are to be announced later.
    We welcome contributions related to:
    · Adoption of RDA outputs by the agricultural community
    · Data Collection: State of the Art, Challenges and Solutions
    · Data Interoperability
    · FAIR principles to all elements of the research process
    · Implementing Research Data Management Good Practices
    · Increasing Data Access and Availability – Opportunities and Lessons Learnt from Sharing and Re-Using Data
    · Capacity Development for Agricultural Data
We also encourage submissions to discuss possible new Working Groups
Call for IGAD community members to collaborate with presentations:
The success of the virtual meeting will count on collaboration from the IGAD community. For those interested in actively contributing with a panel session or a presentation, please send an email to ***@***.*** with the title, speakers short bio and a brief abstract of your contribution before 23rd April 2020. Contributions from people and organizations that have implemented IGAD/RDA recommendations in agricultural data projects and initiatives are preferred. Discussions can involve both policy and technical aspects.
Others that would actively support the event as moderators:
Even more, a call for members to actively support the virtual meeting acting as event moderators is also necessary. Interested members should email ***@***.*** to be part of the collaboration.
The presentations and outcomes of the event will be published in the Open Knowledge in Agricultural Development (OKAD) channel on F1000Research.

    BACKGROUND:
Making data move across sites and communities of users continues to pose enormous logistical, scientific and ethical challenges, given the variety of conceptual backgrounds, material environments and social landscapes in which data are produced, evaluated and traded. This talk builds on extensive empirical studies of data curation and re-use in various areas of plant science to consider the conditions under which data can effectively travel across settings, groups, institutions and locations – and with which implications. Understanding these conditions is particularly relevant in the context of interdisciplinary, global collaborations targeting food security, where the linking of data coming from different sources constitutes at once a tantalizing opportunity and a significant scientific, ethical, economic and political problem. By illustrating what it takes to mobilise data responsibly across settings, the session will:
    1. elicit debate over the complexity of plant data governance and its various publics;
    2. highlight the crucial role of data curators in ensuring modes of data re-use that are sustainable, reliable and trustworthy; and
    3. reflect on the implications of this opportunity for the status and training of curators within the wider research landscape.
    SPEAKER BIOS:
Sabina Leonelli is Professor of Philosophy and History of Science at the University of Exeter, where she co-directs the Centre for the Study of the Life Sciences (Egenis) and leads the “Data Governance, Algorithms and Values” strand of the Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (http://www.datastudies.eu). She is a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute in London, Editor-in-Chief of History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences, and Associate Editor of the Harvard Data Science Review. Her research concerns the methods, infrastructures and assumptions involved in the use of big data for discovery; the epistemology of data-intensive science and its social and scientific implications; the role of the open science movement within global shifts in the production and publication of knowledge; and the status and history of organisms as scientific models and data sources. Leonelli’s work has long focused on the plant sciences, starting from her PhD thesis on the history and use of the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana to her current interest in plant phenomics and the semantics of crop data linkage. She is interested in archival and classificatory practices in plant biology, and the intersection between the digital and the material in the curation of data and specimens. Her publications span the fields of philosophy, social science, biology, history, data science and science policy, and include the award-winning book Data-Centric Biology: A Philosophical Study (2016) and the forthcoming Open Access volume Data Journeys in the Sciences (Springer, 2020). She has worked with the European Commission and a number of national governments and funding bodies on the development and implementation of Open Science policies. From 2012 to 2016, she was a member of the Global Young Academy and lead of their working group on Open Science. She has just been elected member of the Académie Internationale de Philosophie de la Science.
Hugh Williamson is Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, working on the Alan Turing Institute-funded project ‘From Field Data to Global Indicators: Towards a Framework for Intelligent Plant Data Linkage’. He is based in Egenis, the Exeter Centre for the Study of the Life Sciences. Hugh holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, where he researched agroecological conservation and rural development in Romania. Alongside anthropology, his work draws on science and technology studies (STS) and the history and philosophy of science.

    Hi Simon, and TG chairs
Thank you for the info! We have been collaborating with some of the chairs particularly inviting them to the IGAD meetings in the past. David is not working at WB anymore, but we are in contact with Boniface and John. My two cents, this task force has been there for some years now, is there anything new in terms of group activities and time plan? From the link below I see the info published in 2016.
    Cheers,
    Imma

Perhaps you already have contacts, though I don’t see any mention of RDA in the TG blurb.
Note that primary participation in the CODATA group is from Africa, which complements the stronger focus on Asia from the RDA group.

    Dear Shaik and Ramil,
` I do think it is better that you deal with GODAN at this point on time, and IGAD does not interfere. Particularly because it would be very important to show to them the current results of the WG. They have been supporting you quite a lot sponsoring the chairs of this WG to attend RDA and they consider this WG as part of the GODAN initiative too, so I am sure that they will be happy to see more about the work that you have been doing and also what you plan to deliver in Berlin. How many members from the WG are planning to be there?
    Cheers,
    Imma

In order to make sure that we are preparing all what you need on time for the meeting on the 20th March, we need to know (indicative only) whether you will need a room — either 1.) all day, 2.) morning only or 3.) afternoon only, and to also to know how many people you expect will participate in the meeting.
Do you think you could share with us this info in the next days?

    Dear all,

Thanks to those of you that have sent (and are still sending) proposals for presentations for the next meeting IGAD/RDA in Berlin. Since some of you have asked for an extension, we have decided to leave the call for proposals open until Friday. Please send your proposals to AIMS@fao.org.

To those that have not confirmed attendance yet, please let us know as well during this week (registration is for free but it is mandatory!). We have to finalize all the logistics and we need to have an indicative number of possible attendants by the end of this week. Again please confirm at AIMS@fao.org.

If you have any doubts or questions please write to me at imma.subirats@fao.org

Subject: [rda-agrdatainterop-ig] Proposed Delft / Barcelona follow-on discussion of agricultural features
    Greetings,
It has been a while since the Agriculture Summit at the OGC TC in Delft and the various Ag sessions at the RDA plenary in Barcelona. It seems timely to schedule a call / webconference to sort through the various discussions that have occurred and see what activities it would make sense for some combination of organizations including OGC to pursue.
It has been quite clear that greater interoperability of agricultural data in many forms is required to meet a number of data sharing and integration goals. It is also clear that there are many organizations engaged in building data models or interch ange specifications. In some cases these are complementary and in other cases overlapping. In general though, they take varying approaches to modeling space and geography, presenting a geospatial interoperability challenge of different formats, divergent coordinate systems, and varying collection or aggregation units.
My suggestions for an agenda is to look at some experimental activities, such as interoperability experiment or testbed, and ask whether OGC can represent the development of a standard agricultural feature model which could be incorporated into various other agricultural data specifications and provide a form of consistency and validity to the representation of space +/- time. Something like . This at least would be one way of organizin g a collaboration with roles suiting the particular expertise of each organization.
There are other possibilities for action to discuss, including another SoilML activity with a possible connection to urban surface / underground environments, as well as a common data format for UAV-derived agricultural imagery. There is an Agricultural DWG session also scheduled for the OGC St. Johns meeting at the end of June at which activities can be further considered and perhaps formalized.
The call is scheduled for Thursday, 25 May at 9am US eastern daylight time (13h UTC), since this day and time seemed reasonable in the S ummit planning process. Call logistics are below. Let me know if you can make it and any changes or additions you suggest for call topics.

The call is scheduled for Thursday, 25 May at 9am US eastern daylight time (13h UTC), since this day and time seemed reasonable in the Summit planning process. Call logistics are below. Let me know if you can make it and any changes or additions you suggest for call topics.
