These groups require international participation and a demonstrated community, and not aiming to promote specific projects or technologies. They are long-term initiatives within the RDA, remaining in operation as long as they remain active, subject to periodic evaluation of their activity and its relevance to RDA aims.
An IG may be declared inactive for a variety of reasons. IGs that have shown no activity for 1 year will initially be contacted by a member of the RDA Secretariat or the RDA Technical Advisory Board to see if RDA can help re-invigorate the group.
In terms of function and outcomes, Interest Groups may do one or more of the following:
- Serve as a platform that leads to the formation of Working Groups (WGs) by refining their ideas into implementable actions through the development of focused case statements.
- Support communication and coordination among a cluster of related WGs/IGs that may be grouped by theme (e.g., research domain, data publishing, data life cycle component, etc.).
- Engage with external communities, fostering collaborations and bringing new perspectives and members to the RDA.
