Thanks for this – I have responded in the comments (phew, no-one closed them on the 15th 🙂
If this is introduced at the Berlin plenary, I supposed we would need to provide a briefing for all conference crew, as they listed as go-tos in the harassment section.
    Excellent work, thank you.

Harassment from the top has been a real issue in at least one place I’ve worked. Maybe suggest that if the abuse comes from a Council member or SG, talk to the non-harassing co-chair? (Heaven help us all if it’s both co-chairs and the SG …).

Hi Andrew, Amy, all who have contributed,
I support this initiative and think you have done an excellent job in the drafting of this proposed policy.
I note the addition of the line “Participants in the RDA organization or RDA-sponsored event asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.” which I think is very helpful.
I note Ross’s point below regarding abuse of power, and I agree this is a challenge for any process, however I would hope the option of approaching any member of Council or Secretariat, allows the complainant different routes to raise the issue.
So please take this email as support for the paper and the initiative.
    Thanks, Sandra.

Thanks Andrew and Amy for this. I broadly support it, and its thrust.
Unfortunately, as we have seen, the worst form of harassment is often from positions of power. Taking an issue of harassment to the secretariat or Council may be problematic if that is the locus of the harassment. Could we ensure that we cover this situation as well?

Dear members of RDA governance bodies, as well as members of the Gender Balance Taskforce,
We would like to draw your attention to a Request to Comment on a Draft RDA Code of Conduct.
This is a document that Am y Nurnberger and I have been developing since before the last Plenary.
An earlier version was presented to Council last month. They agreed in principle and asked that it be updated and made available for community comment.
The intention is that it will be reviewed after the comment period closes (January 15) and then possibly revised and made available for a second comment round.
The plan is to have this in place ahead of the Berlin plenary. And to anticipate the question we keep getting asked, this is not in response to incidents that have already occurred (as far as we are aware); it is in anticipation of incidents that we hope never occur.
The rest of RDA will be asked to comment nex t week via the newsletter, but we wanted to specifically solicit your input.
So, please have a look, and let us know what you think in the comments.
    Thank you!
