Brief introduction describing the activities and scope of the group
The RDA Repository Platforms for Research Data (RPRD) IG focuses on improving the usability and technical capabilities of research data repository platforms. The RDA Domain Repositories IG focuses on enhancing communication with other RDA groups and on representing the interests of domain repositories in those groups. Together, the RPRD IG and the Domain Repositories IG share interests in identifying opportunities for data repositories to improve capabilities for using data to conduct scientific research. The planned joint session will explore approaches for implementing data repository platforms and for sharing resources among data repositories.

    Meeting objectives
Data repositories offer online services for submitting, curating, accessing and using open data to meet the needs of their communities of users. Data repository designers, developers, managers, and community members have various choices when establishing and enhancing repository services to meet community needs. Decisions on the selection of service offerings, interoperability opportunities, and configurations determine whether the services are distributed, co-located, or follow a hybrid approach. Creating cloud infrastructure and cloud storage and computing capabilities also contributes to such strategies and how they are achieved. The adoption and infusion of new capabilities may require new skills, technologies, partners, and resources that disrupt current processes by establishing new workflows and services. Cooperation and collaboration among data repositories, as well as other service providers, offers opportunities for improving the experiences of users and the resilience of repository services that are offered to stakeholders. Considering such choices and others, this session explores how cooperation among data repositories and service providers have contributed to their innovativeness and resilience. These and related issues are explored by offering first-hand reports from data repositories and service providers that have innovated in a cooperative manner, along with other approaches that have contributed to their success and resilience to meet the needs of their user communities. Discussions of a variety of cooperative approaches offer opportunities for the repository community to improve upon the ways in which innovations are identified and adopted. Proposed outcomes of the session include identification of directions for improving interactions among data repositories and other service providers that lead to improvements in identifying, nurturing, and adopting new capabilities for improving user experiences and repository resilience.
