    sUAS data IG Working Group
    Vocabularies and Ontologies hackathan/workshop
(Planning meeting, November 16, 2017, 9 pm, UTC)
    Washington, D.C.
Those involved in sUAS/RPAS data management are welcome to join us at a VOCamp (Vocabularies and Ontologies hackathon/workshop) 28-29 November Washington DC, or if they can’t make it but want to contribute we’re having a planning meeting 16 Nov 9pm UTC. The topic of ontologies for sUAS data (github) has been accepted for work effort. We currently plan on using modular oceanography ontology Geolink (paper pdf) as a starting point and to work through 3 domain representative scientific sUAS data pipelines. We hope this effort will be a first tangible step towards defining minimum (meta) data requirements and a way of capturing them as this is one of the key needs the sUAS IG has identified. See the sUAS data IG for more context and other work.

    AGU Data Fair
    New Orleans, Louisiana
New this year and inspired by Ruth Duerr, ESSI President, we are adding a Data Help Desk to the Data Fair activities. The Data Help Desk will have three sections 1) Data Reference Desk  (where volunteers can answer data questions) 2) Data Management Workshops (where volunteers will give data-centric workshops) and 3) Tool and Platform Demos (where volunteers can provide a tool/service demonstration).
We are looking for volunteers to sign-up for each of the Help Desk sections for hour long shifts. Sign-up is here: https://goo.gl/forms/Yao672NXobgITyax2
Join the fun and learn more about this and other data-centric Fall Meeting events at:  fallmeeting.agu.org/2017/agu-data-fair
Looking forward to seeing many of you in New Orleans & thanks for supporting the help desk!

ECEIG – new Early Career and Engagement, Interest Group
    July 2017—ongoing
    Bloomington, Illinois
Recognizing the need to create a space in RDA for those who are at the beginning stages of their careers, Devan Donaldson (RDA US Data Share Fellow 2015-2016) and Fotis Psomopoulos (RDA EU Data Share Fellow 2016) submitted a draft charter for an Early Career and Engagement Interest Group (ECEIG). It was formally recognized and endorsed by TAB in July 2017. The objectives of the ECEIG are to: 1) Focus on Early Career Researchers and Professionals because they need the most support 2) Establish a volunteer based mentoring progamme 3) Network across domains to establish an interdisciplinary network of peers 4) Provide a space for people who have more experience with RDA to pass on knowledge and lessons learned to Early Career Researchers and Professionals 5) Create a social outlet specifically for Early Career Researchers and Professionals. The ECEIG had its first social event at RDA’P10 in Montreal (see picture attached). It really brought early career researchers together and was a success! We hope early career researchers will continue to use the ECEIG as a resource! To learn more about the ECEIG, the case statement is located here:  https://www.rdalliance.org/groups/early-career-andengagement-ig
