Hi all,
My name is Pieter Heyvaert and I’m a development lead and developer
advocate at Ghent University – IDLab, imec. In our lab we do research to
make knowledge shareable and understandable on the Web. We also provide
the corresponding tools for that. In the context of COVID-19 we believe
that it is super important to make existing and future research easily
shareable and understandable by other parties, including humans and
machines.
As our first effort we created a Knowledge Graph based on the 40000
scholarly articles described in a public dataset available on Kaggle.
The Knowledge Graph contains all of the information that is present in
the CSV & JSON: author information, content information and meta
information. Moreover, it contains relations between the different
entities, such as citations between papers and so on and extra
information on different entities such as journals, research
institutions and countries. More information can be found at the links
below.

nice to meet you, as well. I am Director of the Finnish Social Science Data Archive (FSD) – sister organization to Swedish National Data Service.
In case you are wondering why, on earth, I joined this group: My background is in sociology, and this situation really puts my sociological imagination to overload, so to say. I expect a lot of social sciences and humanities COVID19 data to be gathered in the coming months, and given the economic and social results, in the coming years. So not clinical research data nor epidemiological or omics data, are my focus. Yet, I feel it may prove useful to at least see, what this group is working on and how GPPR aspects are handled in the guidelines.

I’m an academic Bioinformatician / Data Scientist. I’ve already reviewed one paper on the bioinformatics of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for Covid-19, and I expect many more papers to quickly arrive through the journals. This group should prove to be incredibly useful because it will help in keeping track of the explosion of data as well as building a network of expertise across disciplines.
I also supervise Masters students in Data Science and I expect to direct a number of future students to working on projects linked to Covid-19.

nice to meet you, as well. I am Director of the Finnish Social Science Data Archive (FSD) – sister organization to Swedish National Data Service.
In case you are wondering why, on earth, I joined this group: My background is in sociology, and this situation really puts my sociological imagination to overload, so to say. I expect a lot of social sciences and humanities COVID19 data to be gathered in the coming months, and given the economic and social results, in the coming years. So not clinical research data nor epidemiological or omics data, are my focus. Yet, I feel it may prove useful to at least see, what this group is working on and how GPPR aspects are handled in the guidelines.

My name is Pieter Heyvaert and I’m a development lead and developer advocate at Ghent University – IDLab, imec. In our lab we do research to make knowledge shareable and understandable on the Web. We also provide the corresponding tools for that. In the context of COVID-19 we believe that it is super important to make existing and future research easily shareable and understandable by other parties, including humans and machines.
As our first effort we created a Knowledge Graph based on the 40000 scholarly articles described in a public dataset available on Kaggle. The Knowledge Graph contains all of the information that is present in the CSV & JSON: author information, content information and meta information. Moreover, it contains relations between the different entities, such as citations between papers and so on and extra information on different entities such as journals, research institutions and countries. More information can be found at the links below.

I work on a number of EU- and UK-funded projects in medical informatics. I’m not a data scientist, though. Instead my initial interest is around Ethics and Data Protection, and the tension between the two (I am involved in both at University level). But like Helena, I am also a social scientist and am especially interested in people’s views about technology, data analytics and how this affects their own attitudes towards the use and sharing of their personal data.

 

On an admin note, is someone keeping track of the various and complementary skills around the virtual table?

the PI of the Medical Data Analytics Laboratory (MEDAL) act Centre for
Biomedical Technology, which belongs to Universidad Politécnica de

In our lab, we are running several national and H2020 projects (e.g.:

https://www.bigmedilytics.eu/) related with the extraction and analysis
of medical information (mainly oriented to different types of cancer),
but with expertise in the general concept/procedure as well as other
pathologies.
Our main technological expertise is focused on the extraction of
information from Electronic Health Records (mainly in Spanish) and the
analysis of the resulting structured data. We also have a project (but
in a preliminary stage) that aim to join phenotypical and biological
manifestations of diseases and analyze the relationships with existing
drugs to try to find new drug repurposing hypothesis.
We will be happy to help with the analysis of such data if it is
possible at some point to have access to it or in any other initiative
where we can help.
