    Hi Maggie,
I like this idea. I also copy Matt Mayernik, who is leading a similar session at ESIP in July. The session will explore the overall PID landscape (in Earth science) and examine use case for different types of PIDs. This could inform an RDA session..
    cheers,

+1 to Maggie’s idea and another +1 to Mark’s suggestion for connecting with the ESIP activity.

    Hallo everyone,
The very interesting discussions during the RDA PID community cross-fertilisation workshop yesterday made me think that it could be interesting to have a P21 session along the theme of “PIDs as glue to stick everything together” or something to that effect; – i.e. highlighting (with some “theory” but mainly using real-world practical examples) how to leverage PIDs in metadata records – not only as data values, but also when pinpointing the definition/interpretation of metadata models/standards and their associated fields. What do you others in the PID IG think about this (crazy) idea?
    Cheers,

    Hi all,
As Mark said, we will be conducting a session titled “Persistent
Identifiers: Use Cases and PID Types” at the ESIP meeting in July. As of
now, I plan to be at the IDW meeting this fall, so would be happy to
participate in a RDA session that builds on this topic. Here is the ESIP
session summary, which has a few more details about our goals and hoped-for
    outcomes.
Our basic premise is that the PID ecosystem is large and expanding, and
many use cases exist for PIDs. But not all PID systems are equally
applicable to all use cases. So we are hoping to get some traction on
better understanding which PIDs are most appropriate for different use
    cases.
