Early Career and Engagement IGBrief introduction describing the activities and scope of the group
The WG was set up in 2015 with the goal of delivering the skills necessary to analyse data for researchers in the 21st Century. This has led to three basic activities. Delivery of training to Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in a broad range of foundational data skills, ranging from the social (open and responsible research, research data management) to the technical (the command line, git, machine learning); training to Data Steward Instructors and building on the alumni network. The priority is to provide training for individuals from Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs). Since 2016 it has run 16 training events for ECRs and 9 events for Data Stewards. It has an alumni network of around 250 members. The curriculum of the ECR training is an officially recognised output of the RDA.

YesMeeting objectives
The CODATA-RDA Schools of Research Data Science (SoRDS) has served as hubs for connecting like-minded individuals who are passionate about data science. Students, faculty, and alumni of these schools form a network of professionals who can share ideas, collaborate on projects, and exchange knowledge and experiences. This networking and collaboration foster a sense of community, enabling individuals to learn from each other, stay updated with the latest trends and technologies, and engage in meaningful discussions. In that sense, the schools also serve as a first contact point with the RDA Working/Interest Groups and their outputs as well as the organisation itself. Thus, pipelining participants of SoRDS events to RDA IG/WG participation is a very important goal to be achieved. For this meeting we invite a few of the regular participants in RDA Plenaries to talk about their paths from the schools to RDA participation. Then we’ll have a brainstorming session about how to increase the participation from the school’s alumni network within RDA.
We’ll also use this meeting to report the advancements on the EOSC-F/RDA optimisation project and the outputs built so far. Please indicate at least (3) three breakout slots that would suit your meeting.
