    Dear RDA Chemistry Research Data IG members,
    We are reaching out to individuals who we believe would be uniquely qualified and hopefully interested to contribute to this proposed ‘Data representation in chemistry and materials based on harmonised, FAIR terminologies and ontologies’ RDA Working Group. An online kick off meeting for the Working Group will be held on September 13 @ 11:00-12:30 UTC.
    The proposed WG, which is in its early planning stages and availing of support services from the RDA TIGER project, will provide an overview of terminology, taxonomy and ontology development approaches in chemicals and materials, review best practice, and come up with recommendations for materials terminology and harmonised ontology development. The WG will focus on increasing uptake of the FAIR Principles in chemicals and materials research (in particular in connection with Interoperability and Reusability), supported by improved, more widely-shared metadata and ontologies.
    The overall aims of the WG include:
    * Ensuring that chemistry and materials (meta)data use vocabularies that follow the FAIR principles
    * Harmonisation and implementation of efforts
    * Accessible ontologies.
    We invite all those with an interest in the above areas to join this session. We also encourage you to share this message with anyone who might contribute to the WG development.
    In advance of the session, participants are also invited to review and to contribute to the WG’s draft Case Statement – defining the group’s charter, value proposition, and engagement with other initiatives in the area. Please also add your name/details to the table at the bottom of the document if you wish to join the Working Group.

    Kind regards,
    Ryan O’Connor (RDA TIGER) and Gerhard Goldbeck (WG co-chair)
