A wind of change blowing through the RDA Europe office!

We’re excited to announce a number of changes here at the RDA Europe office! Just before the end of 2023, we told you that we were looking for four new staff to work on our EC-funded project portfolio – RDA TIGER, FAIR-IMPACT and WorldFAIR. Our recruitment has now concluded, and our new team members will be joining us in the coming weeks, with a Science Officer and a Communication Officer joining us in May, and our Senior Communications and Engagement Manager joining us in June.

New TIGERs are joining the RDA pack!

One of our new Science Officers and RDA TIGER facilitators, Athina Papadopoulou, joined the team in April. Our new Open Science Officer has hit the ground running in getting to grips with RDA TIGER, supporting the WGs and their respective communities. Athina has a background in community engagement and project management, with extensive experience collaborating with NGOs, academic institutions, European-funded research and innovation projects and initiatives. Working alongside our RDA TIGER Senior Facilitator Ryan O’Connor, we are sure Athina will bring this know-how to the facilitation support she will provide for the RDA TIGER-supported Working Groups. Ryan has been leading the Facilitation service since June of last year. At this stage, coming up to the halfway point of the RDA TIGER, 17 WGs so far have availed of support from the project. 

Stay tuned as we announce the rest of the incoming team members! We are certain that their expertise in the European research data community will enrich our organisation and enhance our ability to support the RDA community even more. 

Welcoming back Matti Heikkurinen

Following the end of the EOSC Future project during which Matti did an incredible job creating and coordinating the EOSC Future/RDA Ambassador community, he momentarily stepped away from the team. We are delighted to announce that ‘RDA Matti’ (as he is known in the community) has returned and is now supporting the management of our EC-funded project portfolio. Welcome back, Matti! 

Bidding farewell to Ari Asmi, RDA Association AISBL Director of Projects

This month we bid farewell to our former Director, Ari Asmi. Ari has been the face of our successful RDA TIGER project and numerous other RDA Europe initiatives in his time as Director. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for his leadership and vision, and wish him the best in his future endeavors.  

New Director of Operations 

Alex Delipalta stepped into the role of Director of Operations in December 2023. Alex brings six years of experience working as part of the RDA Secretariat and the RDA community, including as Plenary Strategic Manager. Alex brings comparable experience in strategy, research project management, and the development of educational resources and services for the research data community from her previous role as Strategy and Operations Specialist at the Digital Curation Centre. 

We are thrilled about our new, growing team, and look forward to a new chapter for the RDA Europe.
