3 BoF sessions have been run at previous events:At the 11th RDA plenary in Berlin in March 2018 there was a BoF entitled Towards a Global Open Science Commons. This included presentations on the African Open Science Platform, the Australian Research Data Commons, the European Open Science Cloud, the NIH data commons and Canadian activities.
At International Data Week in Gaborone in November 2018, a SciDataCon session was held on Delivering a Global Open Science Commons. Again a number of presentations were given to profile existing work, after which the group discussion pointed to a number of next steps.
At the 13th Plenary in Philadelphia in April 2019 there was a BoF entitled Coordinating Global Open Science Commons initiatives. This session focused on group work to advance a typology and identification of areas in which it makes sense to collaborate and coordinate work.

Brief introduction describing the activities and scope of the group
The Open Science Commons IG and WG will coordinate global activity on the development of open science platforms. The Interest Group will hold the overall mission and define key activities for development through working groups. It will also socialise the community to the concept and value of such work. The first working group will define a typology for data commons and identify a few areas where we can productively work together in short projects.Estimate of the required room capacity
Given that we had 40-50 people attending and contributing to breakout exercises last time, we should allow for at least 50, but ideally up to 80 as a bigger group could be accommodated in plenary discussion.Group chair serving as contact person
Sarah JonesI declare that I have informed the chairs of all the Working / Interest groups included in this joint meeting application.
