Upcoming DPC event: ‘Choosing and Using Persistent Identifiers,’ 6th September

    Dear all
You are invited to join us for our next DPC webinar ‘Choosing and Using Persistent Identifiers’ on Wednesday 6th September, 1300 – 1600 UTC
To coincide with the release of the DPC’s latest Technology Watch Guidance Note: “Choosing a Persistent Identifier Type for Your Digital Objects” by Remco van Veenendaal (National Archives of the Netherlands), this webinar will provide an introduction to PIDs and their uses.
The DPC’s Digital Preservation Handbook, defines a persistent identifier as “…a long-lasting reference to a digital resource. Typically it has two components: a unique identifier; and a service that locates the resource over time even when it’s location changes. The first helps to ensure the provenance of a digital resource (that it is what it purports to be), whilst the second will ensure that the identifier resolves to the correct current location”.
A number of internationally recognized experts in the uses of PIDs will provide an overview of the available options, discuss their implementation, and provide pointers to further sources of information and guidance.
All are welcome to attend this event but places are limited and should be booked in advance. Registration will close at 08:00 UTC on Tuesday 5th September and early booking is recommended as we expect this event will be popular.
