RDA P23 – Programme Committee Members

The members of the program committee are in responsible for developing of the themes for the 23rd Plenary meeting and going to ensure the program is of a high quality.

Alexa Ramírez

(Spanish) Bachiller en ingeniería en computación y licenciada en enseñanza de la matemática del Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC). Además, es máster en inteligencia artificial avanzada de la UNED de España. Actualmente se desempeña como editora técnica de revistas científicas del TEC, donde tiene a cargo la revista Tecnología en marcha y el Portal de revistas de dicha institución. Ha impartido múltiples charlas y cursos sobre edición de revistas, escritura de artículos científicos, acceso abierto y ciencia abierta, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional.

(English) Bachelor’s in computer engineering and graduate in mathematics teaching from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC). In addition, she has a master’s degree in advanced artificial intelligence from UNED in Spain. She currently works as editor in chief at TEC scientific journals, where she is in charge of “Tecnología en marcha” journal and the journal portal. He has given multiple talks and courses on journal editing, writing scientific articles, open access and open science, both nationally and internationally.

Marcela Alfaro Córdoba

(Spanish) Profesora asistente de docencia en la Universidad de California, Santa Cruz. Está interesada en desarrollar métodos estadísticos novedosos para abordar cuestiones científicas relacionadas con el medio ambiente y convertir esas experiencias de colaboración interdisciplinaria en métodos de enseñanza para la estadística y la ciencia de datos. Sus áreas de aplicación incluyen modelos climáticos, biofísica, espectrofotometría, entre otras.

Marcela está comprometida con la práctica de la ciencia abierta y cree en la mentoría de jóvenes científicos. Sus actividades de voluntariado incluyen ser co-chair de CODATA-RDA Schools of Data Science, ser parte del comité organizador de ConectaR2019 y ConectaR2021, la primera Conferencia de Usuarios de R en Centroamérica. Es miembro fundadora del capítulo R-ladies en San José, Costa Rica.

(English) Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is interested in developing novel statistical methods to address scientific questions related to the environment, and turning those experiences of interdisciplinary collaboration into teaching methods for statistics and data science. Her areas of application include climate models, biophysics, spectrophotometry, among others.

Marcela is committed to practicing open science and she believes in mentoring young scientists. Her volunteering activities include being a co-chair of CODATA-RDA Schools of Data Science, being part of the organizing committee of ConectaR2019 and ConectaR2021, the first R Users Conference in Central America. She is a founding member of the R-ladies chapter in San José, Costa Rica.

Josefina Siguencia Zambrano

Specialist, Academy and Training Area in CEDIA
