EOSC Future grant: Sara El-Gebali – Life science
Summary
The key focus of Sara’s ambassador activities was to deliver a series of “Ask Me Anything”-style events featuring keynote speakers from the RDA and EOSC groups focused on RDA activities and EOSC solutions in relation to FAIR implementation and Open practices in Science.
The events brought together speakers from the RDA Groups and speakers from a related EOSC service to describe how their work aligns, how it connects to the research community, and how it benefits the research community in a way that is directly related to the implementation of FAIR and Open research practices.
Main benefitsbenefts of the initial ambassadorship period were:
- Introducing researchers to new concepts in an accessible way, especially complex concepts like Machine Actionability
- Connecting and showcasing EOSC and RDA initiatives to a larger audience
- Highlighting work from other ambassadors by providing a wider platform
- Building a community of experts keen on sharing knowledge and providing professional peer support; building long-lasting professional links and connections.
- Empowering researchers to represent and discuss RDA & EOSCc initiatives
People and Organisations
Sara El-Gebali is a community builder, research data manager, and metadata specialist. She is based in Sweden and co-founded FAIRPoints. She is currently employed with DataCite as a Metadata specialist. Prior to her role at DataCite, she led the implementation of several open source technical solutions, such as sample handling systems and trusted research environments, and outreach and training initiatives for research data management that support open and fair practices.
