Dear All,
Our group will participate in two sessions at the P10 in Montreal. The sessions are now approved. You can see all proposed sessions at https://www.rd-alliance.org/rda-10th-plenary-breakout-session-applicatio... , but the schedule isn't setup yet, and the session descriptions are not yet final.
Descriptions of the two sessions are here:
1) GWIIG session - see https://www.rd-alliance.org/ig-global-water-information-rda-10th-plenary...
2) Joint meeting of GWIIG, IG Data Foundationd and Terminology, and IG Biodiversity - focused on domain vocabularies. See https://www.rd-alliance.org/rda-10th-plenary-joint-meeting-ig-global-wat...
I hope you can make it to Montreal. Please let us know if you plan to attend, and any additional agenda suggestions. We will also request a gotomeeting line into the sessions.
On the last call we talked about water data portals/discovery (see call notes at https://docs.google.com/document/d/13P2qtp42idYuDZ7vH0BFxk-1CXuZuUJ2GML0...), and several of us agreed to continue this discussion. Please indicate your availability at http://doodle.com/poll/c9niqdegbr48rcqt. These are weekdays between July 17-31, at [9am New York == 6am San Diego == 2pm UK == 3 pm Paris== 11pm Canberra].
There was also interest in talking about water vocabularies - perhaps we shall connect on that as well, to prepare for the sessions at P10.
Thanks,
- Ilya (GWIIG co-chair)

Subject: [globalwaterinformation] Hydrological data rescue- past examples and future demand
Dear RDA GWIIG
RDA has a very active Data Rescue Interest Group (https://www.rd-alliance.org/groups/data-rescue.html). Data rescue, particularly of historic data to extend records back in time, is often of interest to the water community, can be hugely important for research, and there is a lot of demand out there for rescuing hydrological data that's at risk of loss.
We're considering a joint water / data rescue session at the next RDA Plenary in Montreal in September. The aim would be to demonstrate the benefits of past data rescue activities in water, identify examples of future need, and consider how this need might be addressed in future.
Could you let me know:
a) if you'd be interested in such a session (remote attendance would be possible)
b) of any great hydrological data rescue examples, particularly where they have had a tangible research and/or societal benefit
c) of any pressing hydrological data rescue needs, again particularly where there could be research and societal benefits
d) if you have colleagues not in the RDA GWIIG who would be interested in such activities
Thanks
Matt
