RDA is an international volunteer member based organisation and as such encourages the initiative and support of its members across the globe to animate their community on a national level. As researchers and innovators are local rather than global, interacting with them in the local language, offering them a platform for exchange of information pertinent to the RDA and their activities and in strict compliance with RDA's guiding principles of Openness, Transparency, Consensus-based, Community driven, Harmonisation and Non-profit, these national pages are animated by RDA volunteer members who have offered to be a contact point. They should not be interpreted as an official representation of the Research Data Alliance in any country or any organisation, unless this is specifically stated.

This is a working area dedicated to the support and updates of RDA Finnish Node. The Node is hosted at CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd., hence actively acting as a mediator and promoting RDA in Finland and also abroad.

National Node acts as the local point of contact between national data practioners and RDA. Our aim as one of the existing nine nodes is to:

  • Support data research at a national/local level, promoting the RDA vision and results, ensuring capillary uptake of RDA principles
  • Synergise with national, European & global organisations in concrete actions to facilitate uptake of RDA recommendations and principles
  • Act as a central contact point between national/regional data practitioners and RDA, interacting with national research funding bodies
  • Contribute to the definition of European data policies
  • Contribute to the definition of RDA’s strategy and participate in RDA processes

This working area connects researchers working with research data in Finland, and enables them to interconnect with broader RDA activities through e.g. RDA Working and Interest Groups. We are continuously looking for researchers, research communities and private sector actors, who are interested in testing and adopting RDA outputs and recommendations, and are happy to give advice in different stages of this process.

Feel free to register by clicking on the 'Join' link on the right. You will be automatically subscribed to the group newsletter and will receive all RDA in Finland updates. Don't hesitate to share your own updates via posts to the mailing list or group calendar.

Research Data Breakfast

Inspired by the Research Data Alliance (RDA) national node meeting in June, we have invited Hilary Hanahoe, Secretary General of RDA to Finland on 14 August, 2018. We will organize an open event Research Data Breakfast at Tiedekulma in Helsinki. This event brings together research data actors and practitioners in an informal way to discuss the current research data landscape and collaboration possibilities. After the presentations, there is an opportunity to get to know Fairdata and EUDAT services more closely, presented by CSC experts.

Please join us and invite your colleagues to the event!

Building Finnish FAIR data competencies through RDA

  • By

Demand for following FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles has been around for some years now, and as we know it is not going to disappear. Actually building on FAIR principles is more and more demanded in research data management, also in infrastructure and service development side. From top-down perspective Open Science agenda of European Commission contains the ambition to make FAIR data sharing the default for scientific research by 2020.

Open science in Finland

Concepts such as Open Science, Re-use of (Research) Data as well as MyData and Big Data have woken a steady interest among the research community, public administration and industry in Finland. Research Data Alliance (RDA) is one way to promote and support the innovation in these topics and put them into action e.g. by adopting RDA outputs and recommendations.
