Agencies fund research to deliver benefits to their stakeholders. This value is enhanced if the research is of high quality and can be used for new purposes.
When funding agencies engage with RDA, they join RDA in fulfilling its vision to openly share data across technologies, disciplines, and countries to address the grand challenges of society. Funders are much more connected internationally in a way that enhances the value of the services they provide to their stakeholders while also enhancing the competitiveness of their research.
There are various ways funding agencies engage with RDA, including:
- Encouraging recipients of its grants to adopt the RDA recommendations and outputs
- Encouraging recipients of its grants to participate in the work of RDA
- Actively participating in the RDA Funders forum
Agencies also have the option to fund various RDA programs and activities, such as:
- Sponsorship of RDA Plenary Meetings (link to plenary page), which could include supporting travel
- Organisation of research data meetings
- Supporting and/or establishing Data Expert/Fellow/Early Career Programmes
- Testing and implementing various RDA projects
- Establishing RDA data awards/scholarships
