Short introduction describing the scope of the group and if any previous activities
The RDA Working Group "FAIR data maturity model" established in January 2019 aims primarily to develop as an RDA Recommendation a common set of core assessment criteria for FAIRness, which will be accompanied by a generic and expandable self-assessment model for measuring the implementation level of the FAIR data principles. The expected outcomes of this RDA Working Group will improve the interoperability of existing and emerging assessment methodologies for FAIR, allow the combination and comparison of their results and increase the homogeneity of the FAIR metric tools developed at global level.

Meeting objectives
The RDA Working Group "FAIR data maturity model" established in January 2019 aims primarily to develop as an RDA Recommendation a common set of core assessment criteria for FAIRness, which will be accompanied by a generic and expandable self-assessment model for measuring the implementation level of the FAIR data principles. The expected outcomes of this RDA Working Group will improve the interoperability of existing and emerging assessment methodologies for FAIR, allow the combination and comparison of their results and increase the homogeneity of the FAIR metric tools developed at global level. The main objective of this first face-to-face meeting is to reach consensus on the key principles and phases of the design methodology that will lead to the definition of the common set of core assessment criteria for FAIRness. In addition, a report summarizing existing work will be presented, together with the results of an analysis of similar assessment criteria and models that could be reused either as they are or after some necessary changes. This meeting forms a milestone in the work of the group, marking the end of an investigative phase and the start of development of a set of core assessment criteria in a hybrid methodology that builds on the previous and ongoing activities around the world. The results of the meeting will feed into the development phase that aims to produce a proposal for a common set of core assessment criteria for FAIRness to be discussed in a sequence of conference calls in the period April to September 2019.
Meeting agenda
• Presentation of the agenda and objectives of the meeting (10 min.)
• Presentation of the results of a desk study on existing FAIR-related assessment methodologies and metrics (10 min.)
• Discussion on proposal for a hybrid design methodology, building on existing work (30 min.)
• Discussion on a first list of core assessment criteria for FAIRness (30 min.)
• Wrap-up and conclusions, schedule for further work (10 min.)
Target audience
Researchers, data service owners, funders and infrastructures from different scientific and research disciplines, the industry and public sector, who are active and/or interested in the FAIR data principles and in particular in assessment criteria and methodologies for evaluating their real-life uptake and implementation level.
