Welcoming new cohort of RDA Europe Ambassadors

RDA Europe welcomes six new Ambassadors to its programme further wideing its engagement efforts and coverage with disciplines and focus topics like Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, Research ethics and Interdisciplinarity,  Bioinformatics, Media and Communication or Sustainable Development Goals. 

Supporting an open dialogue and awareness raising about data challenges across disciplines and research topics, the RDA Europe Ambassador programme brings together domain experts that ensure a two way communication and engagement channel between discipline specific communities and the Research Data Alliance. We encourage you to contact our Ambassadors to learn about the work that they are doing and how you can leverage their work for your own communitiy.

Wouter Addink

RDA EU Ambassador for Natural Sciences

Wouter Addink is coordinating the DiSSCo technical architecture based on the concept of Digital Objects (DO) developed in RDA. He is translating the DO concept to Digital Specimen for the natural scientific collections domain. In RDA he is chair of the Biodiversity Data Interoperability IG and he is working group chair in MOBILISE, an EU COST Action to create a network of scientists and to provide training and short scientific missions in collections. In TDWG Biodiversity Standards he is European representative and in GBIF he is Biodiversity Open Data Ambassador to promote best practices in open sharing of biodiversity data.

Dr. Anne Cambon-Thomsen

RDA EU Ambassador health sciences and for research ethics

Anne is a French medical doctor specialised in human immunogenetics and health ethics, presently Emeritus Research Director at CNRS, in an epidemiology and public health unit of Inserm and University Toulouse III. She published on human genetics, transplantation immunogenetics, societal and policy aspects of genomics and biotechnologies. She is member of the European Group on Ethics, the CODATA international data policy committee, the governing board of EuroScience and co-leads the RDA interest group SHARC. She previously co-directed a Common Service of BBMRI-ERIC, the European infrastructure on biobanking and biomolecular resources, and has a large experience of European and international projects.

Dr. Eva Méndez

Ambassador for Interdisciplinary Research

Dr. Eva Méndez is a researcher in Library and Information Sciences, associate professor at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She defines herself in her Twitter profile (@evamen) as “Semantic Web and Open Knowledge militant”. Her research focuses in metadata and vocabularies to improve interoperability among disciplines in different digital information infrastructures. She is also the Chair of the European Open Science Policy Platform (2018-2020) and deputy vice-rector for Scientific Policy dealing with Open Science in her University, and co-chair of the YERUN Open Science Working Group. She was named Open Data Champion by SPARC Europe (2017) and she is currently involved in FAIR4Health and FAIRsFAIR projects.

Dr. Ingvill Mochman

RDA EU Ambassador for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Prof. Dr. Ingvill C. Mochmann graduated in comparative politics, economics and German at the University of Bergen, Norway, and holds a doctorate in political science from the University of Giessen, Germany. In 2013-2014 she was a fellow at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI) and is now an affiliated expert of HHI. Her research and publications include democracy and minority rights, children's rights and research methodology. She founded the "IG Data for Development " at the Research Data Alliance (RDA) in 2014 to promote data access, data sharing and infrastructure development in developing countries. Fiona Murphy

RDA EU Ambassador Media and Communications

Formerly an Earth Sciences Publisher, Fiona attended the First RDA Plenary, helping set up the WDS-RDA Data Publishing Interest Group. Since then, she has been an active member, and sometimes Co-Chair, of a number RDA Working and Interest Groups. Now a scholarly communications consultant, Fiona is Secretary of the Dryad Data Repository Board, Editorial Board Member of Data Science Journal and Steering Committee Member for the FORCE11 Scholarly Communications Institute (FSCI). She regularly presents, writes and tweets about Open Science and Open Data and organizes workshops and conference sessions around RDA-aligned topics, such as PIDs, data sharing, and data policy.

Dr. Fotis Psomopoulos

RDA EU Ambassador for Bioinformatics

Dr Fotis E. Psomopoulos is a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). His research focus in on Bioinformatics (NGS data analyses, data integration and the application of information theory), data mining techniques for knowledge extraction from large bio-datasets, and parallel and distributed computing. Moreover, he is an advocate for Open Science and passionate about training; in this context, he has organized several national and international training activities on topics such as NGS Data Analysis and Machine Learning, as well as Carpentries workshops, and is the deputy Training Coordinator of ELIXIR-GR.
