Piyushimita (Vonu) Thakuriah is Distinguished Professor of Transportation and Urban Informatics, and the Dean of the Edward J Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy in Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. Her interests are on smart and socially-just transportation, and on urban informatics using emerging sources of data to understand complex urban problems. Her most recent book is Seeing Cities with Big Data: Research, Methods and Applications in Urban Informatics (Springer, 2017). Prior to her current position, she was the Ch2M Chair of Transport and Professor of Urban Studies in the University of Glasgow, UK, where she was the founding Director and Principal Investigator of the Urban Big Data Centre, a seven-university consortium funded by UKRI's Economic and Social Research Council, that includes a UK-wide data service to inspire cities-related innovations. Prior to Glasgow, she was in the University of Illinois at Chicago.
