Originally I studied History of Art and Archaeology at the Free University of Brussels (VUB) with a focus on post-medieval archaeology, museology and collection database management. After working for several years in this domain, I made the switch to IT in 2009 and started working on digital cultural heritage projects at the Royal Museums of Art and History (RMAH) in Brussels. Here I was among other things responsible for the standardization of the collection management database and interoperability projects with the objective to share the museums' digital collections on the web. During my time at RMAH I was responsible for the overall coordination of the European ICT-PSP projects the museum was involved in. As work package leader in several of these projects, I started specialising in domain standards, multilingual thesauri, data interoperability and aggregation processes. In 2013 I started working for LIBIS, a division of the Research and Development department of KU Leuven and part of the KU Leuven University Libraries. As innovation manager at LIBIS I support our partners from inside and outside the university in designing their strategy for managing, preserving and publishing digital content and research data. Projects I’m involved in include among other things technical environments for the research on Babylonian tablets, medieval polyphony manuscripts, specialized viewer applications based on the International Image Interoperability framework (IIIF), crowd-sourcing and storytelling applications, research data management infrastructures etc. I have a strong affinity with semantic technologies such as terminology mapping, semantic enrichment, and ontology modeling. I am strongly involved in several VRE projects on social sciences, arts and humanities and am a member of the Dariah-eu Scientific Advisory Board.
