Marie Farge obtained a MS in engineering from Stanford University in 1977, a PhD in physics from University Paris VII in 1980, and a PhD in mathematics from University Paris VI in 1987. She is 'Directrice de Recherche' at CNRS (Centre National à la Recherche Scientifique) and works on nonlinear dynamics, turbulence, harmonic analysis, wavelets and numerical simulation. She was Visiting Fellow of Trinity College in Cambridge, of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Berlin, and is Fellow of APS (American Physical Society). She was nominated to the Ethics Committee of CNRS, is presently member of the Council of the Academia Europaea and of the Research Innovation and Science Expert (RISE) committee of the European Commission .
