Clive Davenhall is a Project Manager in the Wide Field Astronomy Unit at the Institute for Astronomy, University of Edinburgh. Before 2013 he worked as a software developer latterly at the University of Edinburgh, with spells in its Information Services section and the National eScience Centre as well as the Institute for Astronomy. He has a long-standing interest in astronomical catalogues, surveys, databases and archives and the related issues of metadata, interoperability, distributed systems and digital preservation and curation. He contributed the chapter 'Scientific Metadata' for the Curation Reference Manual compiled by the UK Digital Curation Centre. He is also interested in the history of astronomy. He has degrees from the Universities of London (University College) and St Andrews, and is a Member of the British Computer Society and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
