Mr Mian Du
Mian Du is the chief scientist of FCC in Finland, responsible for managing scientific cooperations between Finnish and Chinese companies/institutes. He is also a PhD candidate in Computer Science department at University of Helsinki, researcher at Sichuan Industrial Technology Innovation Alliance for Clean and Efficient Energy Storage of Renewable Energy (SITIA-CEES) in China. As a PhD candidate, Mian's research focus is to develop a fully automated decision-support system based on information extracted from unstructured big data. Mian got BSc Honors in Information System Engineering at The University of Manchester in UK with the best final year project and thesis in 2004. Between 2004 and 2009, he worked as system software developer, software development manager, senior system architect at The Fifth Research Institute of Telecommunications Technology in China and won three times Chinese Research & Development Award for Research Institute and two joint patents of invention on automated measurement system for twisted cables. Mian got his MSc in Networking and Services with top score at University of Helsinki in 2012. Since 2009, he has been working as research assistant in PULS project at University of Helsinki to improve performance quality and user experience in PULS using Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning technologies. The system is largely used in monitoring infectious disease outbreaks, business activities and cross-border security events. As a researcher of SITIA-CEES, Mian got two joint patents for renewable energy applications between 2011 and 2013.
