Alan Smeaton is a Professor of Computing at Dublin City University where he is Director of the INSIGHT Research Centre. He is a founding coordinator of the TRECVid benchmarking activity, running annually since 2001. He is a member of the Royal Irish Academy, and has researched and published extensively on multimedia information retrieval, lifelogging, and sensor networks.
