Early career as psychiatric social worker. Three years as social work advisor to (Irish) Minister for Health: promoting voluntary services for the elderly; co-ordination community social services. Joined University College Dublin 1973. Retired 2007. Held posts: Senior Lecturer, Director of Social Science Research Centre, Associate Dean Faculty of Human Sciences. International experience: member of the Board of the International Association of Schools of Social Work, founding member of European Schools of Social Work, Book Review Editor of International Social Work.
