I have a background in biology, MSc from the University of Nijmegen (NL), based on research in the field of aquatic ecology and eco-toxicology, and a PhD from the University of Amsterdam (NL) where I studied evolutionary biology (taxonomy, palaeontology, crustaceans). As a Marie Curie postdoctoral research fellow I worked on fossil crustaceans at the Geology Department of the University of Bristol (UK). The first large project I was responsible for as a projectmanager was the European Network for Biodiversity Information (ENBI). Between 2005 and 2016 I continue to work on biodiversity data as the Node Manager of NLBIF, the Dutch branch of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). Currently I work for Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS), the data institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). I am responsible for (the writing of) several proposals concerning the development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). At the national and European level I train people in proper Research Data Management and Data Management Planning, with special attention to taxonomic (biological) information, geospatial metadata, Knowledge Organisation Systems, software sustainability and metadata in general.
