Gil Nelson is the director of Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio), which is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and tasked with facilitating and coordinating the digitization and mobilization of biodiversity specimen data from natural history museums and collections spanning the United States. He serves as an assistant scientist for the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Nelson is a botanist with special interest in trees, other woody plants, and ferns and is the author of numerous books on these and related topics.
