Pamela Andanda is a Professor of Law at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg where she coordinates and lectures Intellectual Property Law and Research Methodology courses. Her research interests are in the areas of intellectual property, data protection, research integrity and ethics, biotechnology, health law and governance of research. Pamela is a member of the UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee. She is Chair and Member of the African Academy of Sciences - Data and Biospecimen Governance Committee; member of Strathmore University’s institutional ethics review committee; the University of the Witwatersrand’s research committee; the Data and Biospecimen Access Committee of the Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa); the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) Standing Committee on Biosafety and Biosecurity as well as South African National Research Foundation’s Social Sciences and Humanities standing panel. She has acted as an expert for the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s Standing Committee on the Law of Patents (WIPO/SCP), is a regular expert ethics reviewer for the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA) and is a co-editor of the South African Law Journal.
