s Associate Professor and Founding Head of The Cloud Competency Centre at the National College of Ireland in Dublin, Horacio González-Vélez directs the NCI's cloud and data analytics infrastructure, postgraduate programmes, and research. He spent over a decade working in engineering and product marketing for innovation-driven companies such as Silicon Graphics and Sun Microsystems. Award-winning lecturer and researcher, Horacio has also carried out applied research in parallel and distributed computing, funded by the European Commission FP6/7/Horizon 2020, UK NESTA, the Scottish Funding Council, NVidia, Dell, and Microsoft. He has been recognised with the European Commission ICT award for his efforts on scientific dissemination. He was the vice-chair of the EU Horizon 2020 COST Action "High-Performance Modelling and Simulation for Big Data Applications (cHiPSet)" (4/2015-3/2019). He is co-PI of the EU CHIST-ERA "Smart Pharmaceutical Manufacturing (SPuMoNI)" (4/2019-3/2022). He earned a PhD in Informatics from the University of Edinburgh, where he was also postdoctoral researcher.
