Gary Holton is a documentary linguist with a focus on the languages of Eastern Indonesia and Alaska. He currently serves as co-director of the Biocultural Initiative of the Pacific, where he strives to increase interdisciplinary collaboration to support holistic approaches to language documentation. He is actively involved in several projects with foster better management of linguistic data. Prior to joining the faculty of the University of Hawai‘i he served as director of the Alaska Native Language Archive at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
