Álvaro Arias, Reader/Associate Professor of Spanish Language Area in the Spanish Studies Department at the University of Oviedo. Author of various publications, his research focuses on Phonology and Grammar, both from a functionalist theoretical approach and on Dialectology and Sociolinguistics, being particularly interested in Spanish, Galician and Asturian. As a result, a large part of his publications are related to these fields.
He has also worked in the field of linguistics historiography and he has rescued and edited literature in Asturian language of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Since 2007 he is the Coordinator of the Project for the Sociolinguistic Study of Spanish from Spain and America (PRESEEA in its Spanish acronym) at the University of Oviedo, which performs completion of the oral corpus of the cities of Oviedo and Gijón.
