With degrees in Political Science as well as Computer Science, Rene Belso has been working since 1999 with research strategy and science policy, namely within research infrastructure in an international context. Focus has been computing technologies and the politics of establishing international infrastructures. Starting in the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science with national thematic research strategies, Rene Belso moved on to become research and IT policy advisor to the intergovernmental Nordic Council of Ministers. From 2012 as director of national supercomputing (High Performance Computing, HPC) Rene Belso has been engaged strengthening national and international computing infrastructure cooperations – e.g. EuroHPC, LUMI, NeiC, EGI, EUDAT, PRACE, GEANT. Since 2020 focus has been on research data management, nationally as well as internationally – e.g. GO FAIR, EOSC. Rene Belso has from the get-go in 1999 been national delegate in many international cooperation bodies, including an independent expert to the European Commission; advisor to the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council; Advisor to Czech Ministry of Education.
