Session Abstract
Meeting objectives
This is a joint session of the Active Data Management Plans IG, which is the place to discuss the evolution and monitoring of DMPs, and of the DMP Common Standards WG, that focuses on technical implementation and harmonization of adoption across platforms. The session builds on the longstanding collaboration of RDA members who have expressed their commitment to support machine actionable Data Management Plans (DMPs) in the Salzburg Manifesto, an initiative born during the RDA P21 in Austria. The joint session aims to drive forward these collaborative efforts by inviting more professionals into the discussions and laying the groundwork for new working groups dedicated to enhancing machine-actionable DMPs. Specifically, P22 identified the need to clearly address the actions but also the extensions of the DMP Common Standard that will enable active DMPs to be produced and consumed in different contexts and by different stakeholders and third party services. As the DMP Common Standards WG is in maintenance mode, we agreed last time that a new WG should be founded. Thus, the session's primary goal is to continue the discussions with the RDA community to develop a comprehensive Case Statement for the new working group(s), including a clear 12-18 months workplan, to be submitted for formal approval by the end of the year. In addition, the session seeks to inform on new advancements across regions, particularly with respect to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) through the OSTrails project in Europe and the DMP_IDs developments in collaboration with Datacite.

Objectives:
- Identify current landscape trends.
- Promote collaborations and alignment on the adoption of active DMPs across regions.
- Present the draft Case Statement for the new working group focused on actions/APIs and extensions for machine-actionable DMPs.
- Develop a detailed 12-18 months workplan for the new working group.
- Facilitate community discussions that will inform the future directions of the groups.

Group Activities & Scope
The Active DMPs IG focuses on promoting the development and adoption of machine-actionable Data Management Plans (DMPs). These advanced DMPs are designed to be dynamic, continuously updated, and integrated with various systems to automate and streamline data management processes throughout the research lifecycle. The group works on identifying best practices, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and developing guidelines and frameworks that facilitate the creation and use of machine-actionable DMPs. The activities include organizing workshops, developing use cases, and disseminating knowledge to advance the implementation and utilization of active DMPs in the research community.

The DMP Common Standards WG aims to establish standardized approaches for representing and exchanging DMP information across different platforms and systems. By developing common standards and protocols, the WG seeks to enhance interoperability and ensure that DMPs can be effectively shared, interpreted, and acted upon by diverse stakeholders, including researchers, institutions, funders, and service providers. The scope includes defining metadata schemas, creating APIs, and developing tools that support the seamless integration of DMPs into existing workflows. The group's efforts are directed towards facilitating a cohesive ecosystem where DMPs serve as central, actionable components in the management of research data.

Short Group Status
Both groups complement each other’s activities by giving input that influences implementation and testing the adoption across stakeholders and diverse settings. The main output, however, organically comes from the DMP Common Standards WG. It has developed an application profile that allows information from traditional DMPs to be expressed in a machine-actionable way, and it has been adopted by all major DMP platforms worldwide. Currently, the WG is in maintenance mode, focusing on sustaining and refining the standards and tools developed thus far. However, to continue driving innovation and addressing emerging needs in the field of data management, it is crucial to observe the changes in the landscape and initiate new activities with fresh goals and aims.. This joint session leverages past achievements and promotes collaborations to catalyze this process by outlining a clear new workplan, gathering input from stakeholders, and building consensus on the next steps to revitalize and advance the group's objectives and deliver community standards for maDMPs.

Target Audience
Our session is designed to engage both long-term participants and newcomers who have a vested interest in the development and implementation of machine-actionable Data Management Plans (maDMPs). We welcome the continued involvement of our existing contributors, whose experience and insights are invaluable to the progression of our initiatives. At the same time, we are actively seeking fresh perspectives and expertise from new participants who are eager to contribute to the evolution and extension of maDMPs. This includes individuals and organizations who can offer:

Practitioners who have successfully implemented maDMPs and can share best practices and lessons learned.
Experts interested in developing new functionalities or extending the capabilities of existing maDMP frameworks.
Stakeholders who can provide real-world scenarios, pilot projects, or test environments to validate and refine our solutions.
Developers and technologists who can assist with creating, testing, and standardizing maDMP tools and interfaces.
Representatives from research institutions, funding bodies, and policy makers who can offer insights into institutional needs and policy implications.
Whether you are a seasoned participant or new to the field, your contribution is essential to advancing the goals of our groups and ensuring the successful implementation and evolution of machine-actionable DMPs.
