Research Data-Admin Data Intersect - P5 BOF session

RDA is to research data what CASRAI is to research administration data. In this context ‘research data’ is data about the observable world and ‘research administration data’ is data about the various inputs, workflows, outputs and impacts of those observations. As such, there will be cases where activities launched at one organization may duplicate or overlap with activities launched at the other. Also, future activities could benefit from being either RDA-led with CASRAI support or CASRAI-led with RDA support. Both the Secretary-General of RDA and the President of CASRAI have endorsed this concept and the inherent goals. The goal of this BOF session is to gauge the relative value of a joint Interest Group simultaneously running at both RDA and CASRAI and dedicated to:

  • ensuring maximum integration/collaboration of existing groups at both orgs,
  • monitoring/liaising with related initiatives outside of RDA and CASRAI,
  • triaging new groups down an optimized path (RDA-led, CASRAI-led or Joint-),
  • exploring new problems at this intersection point and triggering new groups to solve.

The session will be organized as a RDA/CASRAI Cafe: no front podium or ‘talking head table’ - rather a collection of ‘half-rounds’ tables in a moderately sized room - participants encouraged to bring a ‘take-out’ cup of their favourite Cafe drink - coffee/tea etc - Chairs will come equipped with a bag or box each of assorted pastries or donuts to share.

  2. Chairs intro to goals of BOF (Chuck)
  3. Overview of current RDA and CASRAI groups at the ‘intersection’ (David)
