RDA Announces Memorandum of Understanding with the Global Indigenous Data Alliance

The Global Indigenous Data Alliance (GIDA) and RDA have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the goal of clearly announcing their intention to cooperate and coordinate their efforts in areas of mutual interest. Both RDA and GIDA have related missions and are natural partners in the pursuit of various objectives with regard to the tracking, availability, and reuse of research data.

GIDA is an international network that promotes Indigenous control of Indigenous data by advancing Indigenous data sovereignty and governance; asserting Indigenous Peoples rights and interests in data; advocating for data for the self-determined wellbeing of Indigenous Peoples; and reinforcing the rights to engage in decision-making in accordance with Indigenous values and collective interests.

The alliance will become an Organizational Affiliate of RDA, collaborate with Council and TAB, and attend two plenary meetings each year. In turn, GIDA will contribute to RDA and collaborate with its governing bodies. Both organisations may also plan joint activities such as webinars, workshops or other events.
