Portage & Research Data Management in Canada - RDA 10th Plenary Collocated event

Date:
18 Sep 2017

Date: 18 September 2017

Time: 09:00 - 12:00

Venue: Centre Mont-Royal

Portage invites you to participate in a day of activities dedicated to a Canadian community of practice for research data management (RDM). An initiative of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries, Portage was established in 2015 to support the shared stewardship of research data through a Network of Expertise that assists libraries with providing RDM services on their campuses and through partnerships with infrastructure providers to make RDM platforms widely available. The morning session is dedicated to presentations on the status of RDM in Canada and the work of the Network of Expertise, while two afternoon workshops focus on platforms for data management plans and data repositories.

The morning session consists of greetings from Donna Bourne-Tyson, President of CARL, followed by opening presentations on emerging data policy in Canada from the perspectives of a national funding agency and a researcher.

9:00 – 9:10           Welcome and Opening Remarks (Donna Bourne-Tyson, CARL President)

9:10 – 10:10         Tri-Agency Proposed Data Policy and Impact on Researchers (Matthew Lucas, SSHRC and Lyne Da Sylva, UdM)

10:10 – 10:30      Coffee Break

10:30 – 11:50      Portage and RDM in Canada (Moderated Round Table Discussion, Portage Council of Chairs)

11:50 – 12:00      Summary and Closing Remarks

Following a coffee break, a panel consisting of the Chairs of the Portage expert groups will discuss the ways in which their groups are contributing to a community of practice and moving RDM forward in Canada.

Those who will find these three Portage events particularly relevant include the contributors to Portage expert and working groups, graduate students and researchers, those providing research data management (RDM) support on local campuses, and individuals from RDM stakeholder groups, such as funding agencies and organizations representing professionals who provide research services. The event is an excellent opportunity to connect Canada's RDM community of practice with the RDA international community, sharing and learning from the experiences of one another.

There is no registration fee for this event. However, individuals must register to attend. There is a limited number of seats that will be assigned on a first-come first-serve basis. Please register using the link provided. You can register for the morning and afternoon Portage events through a single registration.
