Brief introduction describing the activities and scope of the group:

Software has become essential for research. To improve the findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reuse of research software, it is desirable to develop and apply a set of FAIR Principles for Research Software. FAIR4RS WG is a coordination group to leverage existing community-led discussions on how to define and effectively apply FAIR principles for research software, and how to achieve adoption of these principles. Application of the FAIR principles to software will continue to advance the aims of the open science movement and support research innovation. The FAIR For Research Software Working Group (FAIR4RS WG) is jointly convened as an RDA Working Group, FORCE11 Working Group, and Research Software Alliance (ReSA) Taskforce in recognition of the importance of this work for the advancement of the research sector. The group has completed the objectives listed in the WG Case Statement after the planned period of 18 months.

Short Group Status:

The FAIR4RS WG has completed its work on its outputs. The mainformal RDA output, i.e., reviewed and endorsed by the community via open consultation, is the  definition of FAIR for research software. Details of the FAIR4RS WG structure and community engagement are available in The FAIR4RS team: Working together to make research software FAIR. Adoption guidelines and governance arrangements are also outcomes produced by the FAIR4RS Working Group. The RDA Software Source Code Interest Group will become the maintenance home of the FAIR Principles for Research Software once the FAIR4RS WG ends.
