RDA 21st Plenary Meeting [part of International Data Week 2023], Salzburg, Austria

The International Science Council’s Committee on Data (CODATA) and World Data System (WDS), and the Research Data Alliance (RDA) held the International Data Week 2023 (IDW 2023): A Festival of Data, on 23–26 October 2023, in Salzburg, Austria and online.

IDW 2023 combined the Research Data Alliance 21st Plenary Meeting (RDA P21) and SciDataCon2023. It was hosted by the University of Salzburg through its Data Science and Geoinformatics departments, supported by the Governor of Salzburg and with assistance from the Austrian Academy of Sciences – GIScience and the European Umbrella Organization for Geographic Information.

International Data Week brought together a global community of data scientists and data stewards; researchers from all domains; data, interoperability and informatics experts from all fields (including geoinformatics, bioinformatics, cheminformatics etc); industry leaders, entrepreneurs and policymakers.

This event was an inclusive and celebratory Festival of Data, with in person and virtual components, highlighting the opportunities for the positive transformation of our world in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic and other global challenges.

Three editions of IDW have taken place to date:

IDW 2016, 11–17 September 2016, Denver, Colorado, USA; attended by 840 data professionals and researchers from all disciplines and from across the globe.
IDW 2018, 5–8 November 2018, Gaborone, Botswana; attended by more than 850 international data professionals and researchers.
IDW 2022, 20-23 June 2022, Seoul, South Korea; the first hybrid conference attended by 827 international data professionals onsite and virtually.
