University of Strasbourg

The University of Strasbourg is a multidisciplinary university with 57,000 students. It consists of 35 departments, 70 research units, 6 research support units and 6 federative research structures, three of which in partnership with the French National Centre for Scientific Research, (CNRS). Teaching is provided by nearly 2,800 researcher-lecturers, including 5 Nobel Prize winners, and more than 5,000 external contributors at the cutting edge of their field. 

The University’s mission is the flourishing  of its student and staff community, and through it, the establishment of a space of creativity for the entire community. Due to its geographical location and its shared history with Germany, the Université is based on a dual Franco-German culture and has developed a strong international reach. It is one of the 194 member institutions of the Franco-German Université, created in 1997. With the alliance of European universities EPICUR and Eucor – The European Campus, the University aims at consolidating its scientific excellence through collaboration and mobility and a vibrant campus life. As a founding member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), it is involved in higher education and research on a European scale.

In 2019, the University of Strasbourg implemented its open science policy covering open publication, open research data, open science training and support, research evaluation, dissemination and co-construction of science. The Université supports Open Science initiatives and is a member of the European Open Science Cloud Association (EOSC), the French college of EOSC and the French national research data repository Recherche Data Gouv.

Since July 2022, the University of Strasbourg offers to its researchers and staff a Dataverse collection (Dataverse) into Recherche Data Gouv. The University of Strasbourg develops research data management services called ‘Atelier de la Donnée Alsace’ with its local partners :  a helpdesk is under construction,  Carpentry instructors will be trained in order to organize local Data Carpentry workshops on campus and networks of data stewards in the laboratories are being developed. 

The University of Strasbourg & RDA

In early 2022, a Research Data Alliance group at the University was established. This group aims to bring together staff who are involved in the Research Data Alliance organisation and to make other staff aware of the advances made possible by the Research Data Alliance organisation. The aim is to create a better understanding of the Research Data Alliance among the University’s staff, in order to encourage staff participation in Research Data Alliance working groups. The group includes a mailing list and several meetings per year on campus.
