This Task Force began to define the type of formal outputs generated by RDA and how associated intellectual property rights for those outputs will be managed. The focus was on outputs from RDA, but we also considered associated products, such as articles or publications that may be generated during the course of Working Group activities.
In a first phase we worked to define what constitute RDA outputs by examining the work of the existing WGs as initial case studies.
In a second phase of the project we involved legal experts and broader community consultation to define an appropriate IP policy for those outputs.

Fwd: [rda-outputs-ip] Policy out for comment

Hi all, We haven’t got much comment yet on the policy so far, although there was some discussion of CC0 vs. CC-BY in the comments to the process document. Tony just sent some comments from his legal team though. I respond to some of them below and I ask you to read them carefully. A major point is that we don’t address patents, which is something we should discuss. Another point is if we are to allow CC0 and CC-BY, who decides which to use? I think the WG, but there could be some discussion. I will be setting up a telecon to review all the comments soon.0 | Add new comment

Good point, Catherine. It should be all work in WGs, IGs, and probably TFs. There are some administrative groups within the RDA web space, including TAB and Council, that may not be fully public—e.g. frank internal discussion during case statement reviews. Policy out for comment

I put a post on the RDA discussion forum requesting comment on our policy. I also sent out a message to the full membership, but the system seems to be delaying delivery (you can't send to everyone too often of something). I gave people 4 weeks+ to comment. (14 Feb.)
