Webinar - Tools & Resources for Data Usage Metrics - 21 April 2022

Research data is increasingly recognized as an important output of scholarly research, however, there are not yet standardized or comprehensive research data metrics as there are with articles. While data citations standards are being constructed and gaining user adoption, there are not yet usage (views, downloads) metrics for data. In addition, data citations are currently not yet counted and aggregated into clear metrics, as it is done for articles.

The “Make Data Count” project hosted a Birds of a Feather at RDA Plenary 10 and recognized that many other groups are working in this space and interested in implementing a standardized set of data usage metrics. Lending expertise from various projects and research stakeholders, this WG, a part of the Publishing Data IG, aims to harness community buy-in of data usage metrics and drive widespread adoption.

The WG intends to be be broadly international in scope, and will actively recruit participants from all regions globally, including international initiatives (e.g.,. ANDS) and will be directing outreach globally through webinars, related conferences, and consistent communication. The WG recognizes that for data usage metrics to be adopted at a global scale, representatives from all global regions need to help shape the WG outcomes.

Data Usage Metrics WG Co-Chair Update

by Daniella Lowenberg

Hi all, I am writing to let you know that in August we will have a change of co-chairs for the working group. Ian Bruno will continue to co-chair, and as I move into a new role, DataCite have agreed to lead as co-chair as well. I appreciate the time spent over the last 5 years co-leading this group and I am proud of the recommendations that we have come up with! This change in co-chairs is also timely as DataCite is working on the log processing service that was described in the April RDA webinar.
