Recent Activity: RDA Europe Synchronisation Assembly (SyA)

06 May 2016

IMPORTANT - No F2F RDA Europe planning meeting in Amsterdam 14-15 June 2016, read forward!!!

Hi,

My apologies for the wide coverage of recipients but we want to be sure that the message reaches everybody involved!

After the response the RDA Europe project got at the SyA meeting on the 4th May we have decided to cancel the planned F2F on the 14-15 June in Amsterdam!

However, there will be an open video conference on the 14th June at 11:00 - 14:00 UTC (13:00 - 16:00 CEST) with the goal to discuss and agree upon:

  * RDA Europe functions/tasks/services needed for the next phase of the RDA Europe project

Re: [rda-oab][synchronisation-assembly] Re: Collaboration and Bottom-up Approach

Dear Jamie,
I really like the idea of “RDAx” events (although I would like to replace the place marker “x” by
another letter ;-)
And it is already happening, see for example here (x=“/ADHO"):

Re: Collaboration and Bottom-up Approach

Dear Peter,
As I have failed to explain what I mean by Collaboration, and as you emphasize the value and power of a bottom-up approach, let me make the following proposal:
- We host at CERN an “RDA Collaboration Workshop” towards the end of next year;
- It could be an “RDAx” event, by analogy with TedX, meaning “externally organised”;
- I have more than two decades of experience in organising workshops from 40 to 200+ attendees, not just at CERN, but around the world (Victoria, New York, Taiwan, Mumbai, Karlsruhe, Munich(!), many places in Italy and elsewhere);

Well, the catch is with "daylight saving time/summer time" I think.
During winter UTC is equal to the time in the UK but
BST (which I read as British Summer Time) has an offset of
1 hour to UTC (and CEST has an offset of 2 hours to UTC).
So yes, we meet in about 40 minutes but that's 11am UTC, noon BST,
and 1pm CEST.
Just my 2 cents ;-)
Cheers,
Raphael

RE: [synchronisation-assembly] RE: [synchronisation-assembly] Invitation to the next SyA...

As a British former astronomer, I observe that BST is 1 hour ahead of UTC (and BST is 1 hr behind CEST). But we do speak in less than one hour (assuming we don’t travel too fast).

Well I have it down as 13:00 CEST, which is 12:00 BST, which is 11:UTC.
That is in a bit less than 1 hour (I think).
Juan.

AW: [rda-oab][synchronisation-assembly] [rda-oab][synchronisation-assembly] US future thoughts

Hallo Jamie,
there is so much going on in RDA that I did not have the time to look through the wiki of the preservation group beforehand.
What I have seen and read are for example interesting documents about preservation in the HEP community and there are various pointers to interesting workshops. I also saw that you refer to ISO based certification which obviously is suitable for CERN.

meeting in Brussels

Dear SyA Members,
coming week we will have a meeting with EC colleagues in Brussels to discuss about various aspects.
That attached set of slides may give you an impression which kind of issues are on the table. Some of the issues will be subject of further discussions at 4.5 and later.
We will of course inform you about relevant results of that meeting wrt the future of RDA.
best

AW: [rda-oab][synchronisation-assembly] US future thoughts

Dear Hugh, all,
did you ever see the training page – please look here: http://europe.rd-alliance.org/training-programme
Our primary focus for out training efforts as RDA EU is to disseminate the RDA global results, but we also do slightly more. And also the other regions will have some activities in this respect. Since all material is open we can all share our efforts.
