RE: [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Feedback needed on a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice

Sophie,
I like very much how the rice poster shows some interactions among different actors. I work primarily at the grower level, and think some other actors and interactions are important to the grower and pose semantic interoperability challenges. This may be too much detail, and either merit a separate poster, or not be what you want. In any case, here are some examples:
Additional actors:
- Service providers (i.e., providers of agronomic, spraying, harvesting services, etc.),

Re: [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Feedback needed on a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice

Sophie,
Some ideas after a quick look.
1. I like some of the terms in the Concepts diagram that might be employed
in the Semantic Richness diagram. For example using "medical use" and
"popular belief" as part of Sociologist rather than "God" as you currently
have.
2. The dotted, connecting lines work for me and "Yield" seems to be one of
the central ideas, although you don't connect the Biological concepts to
that idea.
Biologist and Sociologist are the only boxes that don't have a connection
but they might.

Feedback needed on a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice

Dear all,
Please find attached the 1st version of the poster I've just received.
Many thanks to all of you who already helped me. It is not finished yet!
If you feel like doing some comments, please do by tomorrow 14:00 CEST.
The text in white labels needs to be revised. I join a new proposal.
What do you think about it? Are the items representative enough of each
point of view?
Kind regards,
Sophie

RES: [SPAM] [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Help needed to design a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice example

Dear Sophie: great design!
I do not know if my contributions will meet your expectations but I send them for general discussion. The most important, to me, is to add the concepts of "data sets" or "data repository" because is there where ultimately semantic technologies will be applied aiming interoperability. I tried to design this in the following figures. The exercise was very routing and, therefore, endless! So I decided to send my first and immediate insights. I separated into two figures not to overload the design and hinder understandings.
I used:

Re: [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Help needed to design a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice example

Sophie et al,
I see that some ideas for a Science Use Case are developing. One idea that
occurred to me is that the Wheat Group may have generated a use case that
could be leveraged and adapted.
Perhaps someone from that domain could comment.

Re: [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Re: [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Help needed to design a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice example

Dear Sophie,
this is a nice and rich poster. Please feel free to consider these
suggestions:
1. maybe highlight the "why" as you did for the issues and the
solutions. We can guess more or less some purposes from the picture
(more interdisciplinarity, reproducibility of science, more services for
end users such as breeders, farmers, decision makers, etc.) but it might
not be obvious for everyone.
2. add PIDs in the list of solutions as they play a key role in
desambiguisation

Re: [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Help needed to design a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice example

Dear Gary, all,
Moving the issues on the diagram seems a good idea. I'll suggest it to
the society that will build the poster.
I really like the idea of a use case but I am not able to design one. If
some expert of rice could propose one or two, it would really help.
Best,
Sophie

Re: [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Re: [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Help needed to design a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice example

I see two possible use case
one focus on document and information ressource exchange able to adapt
at different domain (agriculture, agronomie, cooker and so on) and
granularity
so it is a document management use case.
one focus on spatio temporal data integration based on observation (crop
observation, species observation)...
Thus for example some comparaison, integration, search aggregation issue
should be presented.
it is a data management use case.
This first one seems simpler to explain (because you did not need to go

Re: [rda-agrisemantics-wg][rda-rice-wg] Help needed to design a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice example

Sophia
You have put a good deal of work into the diagram, which looks like a first
sketch of a conceptual model.
One thing you could do is to move, maybe all of the issues onto the
diagram. For example you can illustrate different levels of granularity
and also synonyms.
One other idea might be to employ a use case to organize and feature some
relations between concepts.

Help needed to design a poster on semantics for agriculture data - rice example

Dear Rice Data Interoperability WG members,
Dear Agrisemantics WG members,
I am requesting your help on the design of a poster to communicate on
the benefits of semantics for agricultural data use.
The first occasion to present this poster is the GODAN Summit in NY on
Sept 15th and 16th (so very short deadline), where we have the
opportunity to showcase AgroPortal, AgroLD and some other semantic-based
applications to policy makers, funders, companies, researchers, etc.

Dear all,
thanks a lot for your most valuable contributions to the Case Statement.
This looks great!
After some final polishing, we will publish it tomorrow on the

Case Statement

Dear all,
The Case Statement will be sent to the review process on September 1st,
as agreed during our last WG call (see minutes: http://bit.ly/2921gR2).
This email is a kind reminder to contribute to the online document:
http://bit.ly/2awVXFz. Many thanks to those who
already have.
Input from WG members is more than welcome, particularly on the "Value
Proposition" and "Adoption Plan" sections that are still a little weak.

Re Case Statement for da-agrisemantics-wg

Regarding the recent discussion about a Case Statement for a
RDA-agrisemantics-wg, I was at a recent RDA meeting on Chem Research IG who
was also interested in considering formation of an RDA WG. As part of the
outline of a Case Statement we had these parts which may help give a sense
of what RDA review looks at:
Value Proposition: A specific description of who will benefit from the
adoption or implementation of the WG outcomes and what tangible impacts
should result.
