A use case from the National data Service (NDS)
I noticed that NDS has a sample use case and it seemed like it would be of interest to keep as part of our collection of use cases. Note that it cites among other things the Virtual Observatory which was also discussed at our BoF session at P4. Robert Pennington of NCAS may have more to say about this exampe since NDS is under him... Using the NDS: a scenario To illustrate how a scientist might use the NDS, consider this scenario for astronomy research which we think can be realized:5 | Add new comment
Survey analysis results of RDA Europe data architectures .
Peter mentioned at various meetings some survey analysis results of the data architectures within RDA Europ organizations of the communities. He noted that it is available. I've taken the liberty of attaching a draft of this report which I am sending on while Peter is on his much earned vacation.0 | Add new comment
Notes of DF IG/BoF Meeting at P4 20140924
I've finally gotten and had time to go thru Keith's excellent notes from our DF meeting at P4. I've added a few things to it such as Beth's diagram and some info from my briefing slides along with some notes that I had. I'm sure that there are still things that could be added such as long, summary comments from Tim and others, but I hope this will serve as a base and people can comment and even edit if they think it useful.0 | Add new comment
RE: [rda-datafabric-ig] Should we consider the SO Reference Model for Open Distribute...
Thanks Gary and Keith. I share the concerns from Keith in so far that before introducing or agreeing on a formalism (whatever it is) we need to understand what the use cases are which we can take as basis for our elaboration. We need to be grounded in such models or use cases since otherwise we will end up in theoretical discussions. And as Beth suggested we should be willing to do certain demo cases that may explain what we are aiming at.0 | Add new comment
Posting file attachments to IG file system
I've noticed that the files we attach when posting make it through to email to the people registered. But they don't go into the IG file system unless someone adds them. This means that if people learn about the IG later and register they miss the email and have difficulty finding what has been attached to the posting unless we put them also in the file system.1 | Add new comment
Should we consider the SO Reference Model for Open Distributed Processing (RM-ODP) model for structuring their analysis?
Alan provided some cautionary advice on the impact of model complexity as we go forward with more structure and functional details. We have a start on a ReUse scanario from Beth and that version has detail to start with. John Henry proposed a system engineering view...1 | Add new comment
Follow up to first DF meeting at P4
Thanks to those who came to our Wed. IG session at P4. I think we all were excited with the conversation and prospects. I expect that our note taker Keith will provide us with a good record of some of the major discussion areas and that Beth will formalize her organizing diagram as we move on to write our White Paper by December. There is also the promise of fleshing out our Data Reuse Scenario on the way to an adoptive test of these ideas.2 | Add new comment
