World Meteorological Organization reinvigorates relations with space agencies

Dear colleagues
In recognition of the vital role of satellite observations, WMO will reinvigorate its relationship with space agencies to strengthen cooperation in in an era of rapid climate, societal and technological change.  
Space-based observing systems constitute approximately 90 percent of the data used in global numerical weather prediction models. They are the backbone of operations of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, providing invaluable insights that safeguard lives and property worldwide, 24/7.

Global Forum on the Ethics of AI

Dear colleagues
Thanks to UNESCO and the Government of Slovenia for organising the2nd Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence: Changing the Landscape of AI Governance in Slovenia on 5-6 February 2024.
This Forum brought together the experiences and expertise of countries at different levels of technological and policy development, for a focused exchange to learn from each other, and for a dialogue with the private sector, academia and a wider civil society.

WHO releases AI ethics and governance guidance for large multi-modal models

Dear colleagues
The World Health Organization (WHO) is releasing new guidance on theethics and governance of large multi-modal models (LMMs) – a type of fast growing generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology with applications across health care. The guidance outlines over 40 recommendations for consideration by governments, technology companies, and health care providers to ensure the appropriate use of LMMs to promote and protect the health of populations.

Building upon the Global Partnership on AI Ministerial Declaration New Delhi 2023

Dear colleagues,
Access to AI research, development and resources for deployment is primarily concentrated in the West. Despite AI’s power to redress current inequalities, this asymmetry threatens to reinforce the divide even further. 
As Lead Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence in 2024, India aims to better include countries from the Global South in the conversation surrounding AI to:
· Diversify perspectives of those involved in AI development 
· Pool expertise and resources
· Democratise knowledge and use of AI systems

India welcomes 2024 with the launch of XPoSat to help unravel Universe's Big Mystery

Happy New Year! 
India welcomes 2024 with the successful launch of X-Ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat), the second global polarimetric observatory after NASA's IXPE in 2021. Congratulations to all scientists at ISRO for the successful launch of XPoSat. It was launched from Sriharikota spaceport in India at 09:10 local time (03:40GMT) on 1st January 2024.
