The Research Data Alliance (RDA) Secretariat and RDA-US will host two virtual ‘AI Cross-Fertilisation Meetings’ this September, aimed at connecting the growing number of AI-related groups and Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions scattered across the RDA before they converge at the 27th Plenary Meeting (P27) in London.
The initiative, partly inspired by the inaugural RDA-US 2026 Cohort of 14 mentees and 6 mentors, is open to the wider RDA community.
AI Cross-Fertilisation Meeting 1
Focuses on trust, governance, and standards for AI agents in research data workflows, with pitches on trust-centred strategies for agentic AI, standards for AI agents in research workflows, agent network and access governance, rethinking data discovery through AI, and automation tools for data curation.
AI Cross-Fertilisation Meeting 2
Covers FAIR and AI-readiness across the technical stack, with pitches on building a FAIR machine learning management plan, data-software-environment interplay for AI (‘the AI triad’), aligning research software communities and infrastructures, AI-ready data infrastructure, and an introduction to the Global Open Research Commons (GORC) AI Slice.
Each meeting will run as a series of 5-minute lightning pitches followed by structured discussion on overlaps, gaps, and collaboration opportunities. Insights will be captured in shared collaborative live notes, and sessions will be recorded, with individual pitch recordings and slides made available afterwards.
