RDA Groups Accelerating Global Data Sharing | RDA P25 Day 3 Highlights

Published on October 15, 2025

As the RDA community gathered for another full day at the RDA 25th Plenary Meeting (as part of IDW 2025), collaboration and innovation took centre stage. From strategic discussions with the Technical Advisory Board (TAB) and updates from the Funders Forum, to deep dives into AI policy and research assessment reform, the day showcased the range of the RDA’s global initiatives. Here’s a n overview of the key moments of Day 3.

TAB Meets Co-Chairs Meet up

RDA Group co-chairs had the opportunity to meet and discuss with members of the Technical Advisory Board (TAB) today. TAB acts as the technical backbone of the RDA, offering expertise and guidance to the Council, and plays a crucial role in the development, review, and promotion of RDA Working & Interest Groups and Communities of Practice.

RDA Funders Forum Update

The Research Data Alliance convened its Funders Forum, bringing together funding organisations and representatives interested in research data and policy development. The meeting provided updates on key RDA initiatives including the new agentic AI collaboration with Microsoft, as well as updates on national PID strategies from Australia and Canada, and ORCID integration.

Spotlight On: Bridging AI international policy and practice: the AIDV approach

The ‘Developing an advanced and secure environment for data visitation across the RDA (DV4RDA)’ project, funded by RDA TIGER, was developed by members of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Visitation (AIDV) Working Group. Its aim is to put RDA principles into practice; making data shareable through a community-driven initiative that creates a framework for implementing data visitation technologies. This session introduced participants to the recently-endorsed Outputs and Recommendations of the AIDV WG and focused on the various ways these have been implemented so far, with future possibilities for implementation also discussed. Questions from participants focused on how the WG’s outputs and the concept of data visitation in general can help negotiate the complex legal, regulatory and technological boundaries which researchers face.

The DV4RDA project directly aligns with RDA’s mission to champion interoperability, reproducibility, and accessibility’.Natalie Meyers

CoARA Boost Project roundtable

Convened by the RDA AI & Data Visitation WG co-chair Francis P. Crawley, RDA Europe participated in a roundtable discussion which focused on the research assessment landscape and how to build on the work done by the CoARA Ethics and Research Integrity Policy in (ERIP) Working Group.

The discussion focused on how the co-chairs of this WG intend to harmonise their work across several regions, one of which will be in Europe with the CoARA Boost project coordinated by RDA Europe, titled ‘Teaming for self-evaluation in research assessment across scales: from researchers to institutions’.

This project will kick off with a webinar in November – watch the usual RDA channels for updates!

Coming up tomorrow

RDA Breakout Sessions (09:30-11:00 local time and 13:30-15:00)

  • Tomorrow sees no fewer than fourteen RDA Groups take the stage to further their work and present their outputs to the global RDA community. Remember you can filter by RDA Pathways to find the topics most relevant to your work.

Final Plenary Sessions and Closing Ceremony

  • We will be saying goodbye to P25 and IDW2025 tomorrow, but not before a final closing Plenary session: ‘Empowering the Global Data Community for Impact, Equity and Inclusion. Hear from keynote speakers Sandra Collins, Devika P. Madalli, Nokuthula Mchunu, Rodrigo Roa, chaired by RDA Secretary General Hilary Hanahoe.
