Research Data Alliance’s 27th Plenary Meeting (RDA P27), 6-8 October 2026, London, will be hosted by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the UK’s largest public research funder.
UKRI brings together seven Research Councils (covering all domains), Research England and Innovate UK. It has a strong history of leadership and investment in open research and research infrastructure. UKRI and its predecessor councils have been supporting access to data since the 1960s through funded data services. These include the UK Data Archive, part of the UK Data Service, that provides researchers with support and access to collections of social, economic and population data, and the Environmental Data Service whose data centres goal is to ensure that environmental data are made available, accessible and re-usable for the long-term. UKRI promotes open research practices, aiming to achieve open (and FAIR) research data through its research data policy and its ongoing Digital Research Infrastructure Programme that is developing a coherent state-of-the-art national digital research infrastructure.

UKRI and its constituent councils have been working closely with RDA at all levels since its creation, participating in Plenaries, working and interest groups, and the Funders Forum. It has both regional and organisational membership and works with other stakeholders in the UK to stimulate engagement with this important international community of data professionals, for example with the Digital Curation Centre and Jisc. In fact, UKRI-STFC is also the host of the RDA legal entity the RDA Foundation.
Rachel Bruce, Head of Open Research at UKRI, said:
“We are looking forward to welcoming delegates to London and celebrating UKRI’s involvement with the RDA and international research data community, as we work together to build a global research ecosystem where data is routinely shared and reused without barriers.”
