We’re pleased to announce the trial of an AI-supported concierge, Dot for the Research Data Alliance community.
The RDA Concierge is built on an index of the RDA website’s 40,000+ public pages, and has been given context on RDA’s various audiences, tone, and priorities so it can navigate the site’s content to answer questions and help visitors find what they need. It’s multilingual too.
RDA Concierge at a glance:
- Built on 40,000+ RDA web pages
- Multilingual
- Data stored in Frankfurt (EU), never leaves
- Pseudonymous by default
- Opt-in memory, within the chat
Your data, handled carefully
All conversation data is stored regionally. As RDA is UK-based with a global membership, this means our data sits in Frankfurt (EU) and never leaves. Everything is pseudonymous by default: visitors are simply random session IDs until they actively choose to be remembered. That opt-in happens organically within the chat itself, a few messages in, so rather than a cookie banner or a wall of text, it’s a natural moment where users are asked if they’d like to be remembered next time. If the answer is no, nothing is stored beyond that session.
What’s coming next
Future versions may serve logged-in RDA members even better, drawing on profile context, research interests, membership type, and so on, to give more relevant answers. That data is never stored; it simply informs the response, then disappears, like a helpful colleague who reads your file before a meeting and forgets it the moment you leave the room.
Look for the Concierge icon, Ask Dot in the bottom right corner of any RDA page and ask Dot!
